Dear Joan,

You asked if I would provide you with some feedback with regard to our meeting yesterday.  Rather than type out a response immediately upon arriving back in my office, I though it best to think matters through overnight.  I'll share with you here a couple of impressions.

If I were to say to you, "My meeting at PTC Accounting & Finance went as expected", it would be my hope that you would interpret this statement to be a compliment.  Were you to further enquire as to my expectations, my initial response might note that I was provided with an agenda prior to the meeting, that I was greeted courteously upon arrival, that the meeting took place on time, that we addressed all items in the agenda, that follow up expectations were set and, finally, that the meeting wrapped up in the time allotted.  It is the way a meeting should be run but so often it is not the case.  While your words, both spoken and written, expressed to me your appreciation for the time taken to meet, your actions spoke it as well.

As to our discussions, I certainly derived value from your sharing of the recruitment and placement processes at PTC. Even more importantly, however, you challenged me to share with you what value I would bring to a prospective engagement.  While we may rehearse our "elevator speech" with ourselves or with a friend, having the opportunity to share and discuss it with someone with your experience is invaluable.  I reflected on our conversation during my commute home last evening, as well as this morning, and discussed my response with a trusted associate.  I am now at the point where I would offer a slightly different response to your question regarding how I might differentiate my self from a similar candidate.  My point here is that, not unlike the "ideal boss" you asked me to describe, you shared with me points of view and questions that stimulated thought and reflection while not providing "the answer".  In this circumstance, perspective changed.

So, the meeting was well run and I came out of it with something valuable.  It is, in my opinion, a great start.  I appreciate the time you took to meet with me.

Thanks and best regards,

C. Scott
