PTC is pleased to announce that as of 2008, we have launched our new ‘Going Green’ initiative to take part in the ever-growing need to save the environment. There are many things we will be doing as a workplace to kick this plan into gear, and most of them will require only minimal changes to our lifestyles. We hope that you, our valued candidates, will find our tips useful and take part in our collaboration to help the environment.

Watch out for new tips in every newsletter, outlining different ways we can effectively create greener homes and workplaces. These tips will include things like going paperless, turning off computers before going home at the end of the day, carpooling or taking the TTC to work, and using greener materials that are better for the environment. We will also welcome any tips you may have, as we all know that every little bit helps.

Our goal is to educate everyone about the benefits of going green, and offer training on how to do so. Remember that each and every one of us can make a difference on our own, but essentially we must work together in order to achieve the greenest environment possible.

Our first tip: Shutting down! It’s an easy step, and doesn’t take much time. Just remember to shut down your computers, lights, and monitors before going home for the day, and unplug any chargers you are not using. At home, turn off lights when you’re not in a room, unplug any peripherals you are not using, and try to use your dishwashers, laundry machines, etc. at non peak hours (11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the summer, and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the winter). You’d be surprised at how much of a difference this can make to both the environment, and your energy and hydro bills!
