A Motivated Job Search
Staying motivated in your job search is the key to survival. Like it or not, this is a "job" most of us will have several times in our careers -- looking for work. Facing a job search can be bleak, especially if it's suddenly thrust upon you. To find a great job while keeping your head above water, personally and financially, is no easy feat. The only way to do it is to stay motivated, and here are a few guidelines:
- Start your day on the right foot. Treat this search as if it were a full-time job and wake up early, get dressed and fuel your body with a healthy breakfast. Getting an early jump on your day will give you the opportunity to come up with a plan and make the best of the hours you have ahead of you.
- Make sure your environment is conducive to the positive energy you are looking for. A clean and organized working space will ease your mind and reduce chaos.
- Create a schedule and stick to it! Having a timeline to work with will keep you focused and on track and will make it easier to organize your priorities and tasks.
- Exercise your mind. Take a course and develop your skills and knowledge. This is a great time to improve your qualifications and get on top of the trends in your field.
- Reward yourself. Although you may not feel like you’re making any headway, after a long 8 hour day of job hunting, you deserve a break. This job is not only time consuming, it’s emotionally and physically draining and you deserve something positive to work towards so et yourself a goal and reward and work towards it.
The energy we put out affects those around us. Our mood will determine the way others interact with us and will ultimately decide the fate of our relationship with them. Although we are not aware of it, people tend to look to others to find positive energy and support to draw form.
It's inevitable that at some point in this process, you will feel run down. Remember that this period of unemployment will give you a chance to reassess what you really wanted and need out of life. It will help you to make positive changes, and will make you much more resilient in the face of other crises.
There are always jobs. If your job search method isn't finding them, change it. Remember that rejection does not make you an unworthy worker or a bad person. It just didn't work out for that particular job.
Finally, remember not to give up! There is a good job out there for you -- in fact, there are many. Keep your head up, and you'll find them!
